Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has upheld part of a complaint that Village magazine breached the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.    The complaint was made under Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice.   Other parts of the complaint are not upheld.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Ms Madeleine Halpin that Independent.ie breached Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Mr William Mongey on behalf of Men’s Voices Ireland that The Sunday Business Post breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by a man that Hot Press breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights), Principle 5 (Privacy) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by a man that Buzz.ie breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights), Principle 5 (Privacy) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has decided that The Irish Times offered action which was sufficient to resolve a complaint made by Mr Adam Levick of UK Media Watch, an organisation which describes its function as promoting fair and accurate coverage of Israel in the media.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Offaly Express breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Mr Gerry Adams TD that the Irish Independent breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Northern Standard breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.
