Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint by a woman that the Sun.ie breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.  The woman also complained that the article breached Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice.  This part of the complaint was not upheld.

The Press Ombudsman had upheld a complaint by a man that an article published by the Irish Examiner online breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland. A claim that Principle 7 (Court Reporting) was breached was not upheld.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by a man that Independent.ie breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Mr Scott Ryan that Independent.ie breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by a man that the Galway City Tribune breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights), Principle 5 (Privacy) and Principle 7 (Court Reporting) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman had upheld a complaint by a woman that Independent.ie breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.  The woman also complained that the article breached Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice.  This part of the complaint was not upheld.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Paul Murphy TD that The Sunday Business Post breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint by a man that the Irish Daily Star breached Principle 5 (Privacy) and Principle 9 (Children) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint that the Wexford People breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has found that there is insufficient evidence available to him to make a decision on part of a complaint made by a couple that Independent.ie breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.    He has not upheld other parts of the complaint that Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) and Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty) of the Code of Practice were breached.
