Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint by Ryanair that the Irish Independent breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint that the article breached Principle 5 and Principle 9 of the Code of Practice.  The Sunday World published a report that a woman had been visiting her husband who was in prison. Several photographs of her with a teenage boy whose face was pixilated accompanied the report. These showed her and the boy outside the prison.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Irish Farmers Journal breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Northern Standard breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has decided that he has insufficient evidence to make a decision on two complaints that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the University Observer breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty) and Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman did not uphold a complaint by Mr Bulelani Mfaco that The Irish Times breached Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.
