Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has decided that sufficient remedial action was offered to resolve a complaint that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland. In addition, he did not uphold a complaint that Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) had been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has decided that The Sunday Times offered to take action which was sufficient to resolve a complaint made by Mr Dan Duane that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland had been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint made by Mr Jim Corr that the Sunday World breached Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

A complaint by Mr Ian Bailey that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights), Principle 5 (Privacy) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland has not been upheld.

The Press Ombudsman decided to uphold a complaint by Mr Colm Keaveney that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.
