Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has decided to uphold a complaint by Mr Jim Hynes that two articles in the Sunday World about the murder of his partner, John Maguire, were in breach of Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint by Mr Brian Arnold that an article in the Irish Independent was in breach of Principles 1 (Truth and Accuracy), 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment),  3 (Fairness and Honesty)  and 8 (Prejudice)  of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.  

The Press Ombudsman has decided that there is insufficient evidence to allow him uphold a complaint by Mr Sean Fitzgerald that an article about him in the Sunday World on  3 November 2013 was in breach of Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided to uphold a complaint by Dr Sandrine Brisset that an article published in Trinity News on 16 October 2013 breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided to uphold a complaint by Mr Harry Browne that an editorial addition to a letter from the complainant published in The Irish Times on 14 October 2013 was in breach of Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided to uphold a complaint by Lorna Siggins that an article in the Village magazine was in breach of Principles 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and 4 (Respect for Rights) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint by Mr Derek Quinlan that an article in the Sunday Independent on 28 July 2013 was a breach of Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.

The Press Ombudsman has decided to uphold a complaint made by Mr Shane OCurry, Director of European Network Against Racism Ireland (ENAR),  that an article in the Irish Independent on 30 September 2013 was a breach of Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines.
