The Press Council of Ireland considered an appeal made by Fr Padraig Keenan under Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fairness and Honesty), and Principle 4 (Respect for Rights).
The Council rejected the appeal under Principles 1, 2 and 3 but upheld the appeal under Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) because it considered that the newspaper should have offered Fr Keenan the right to respond to the allegations made against him before the article was published.
